Monk Fryston CE Primary School - News

June 12, 2018

We are delighted that the conversion process to academy status has been
completed smoothly and effectively, and our school became part of the STAR
Multi-Academy Trust on 1 st May. We are looking forward to working closely
with our partner schools in future, and developing the best possible
educational provision for all our children. The MAT has appointed Mr Martyn
Sibley as the Chief Education Officer. Mr Sibley was formerly headteacher of
Tadcaster Grammar School (and Sherburn High School before that) and so
knows our school and area well. We are excited about working with him.

Our school had an inspection in early June for SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of
Anglican and Methodist Schools). This looks at the school’s distinctive
Christian character and investigates the level of education we are delivering in
line with the aims and mission of the Church of England. This was a very
rigorous and thorough process, and we hope to receive the outcome soon.
We are optimistic that this will be a very positive outcome!

Mr Weights and Mrs Law visited a school in Malta at the end of half term to
complete our Erasmus+ project. Over the last two years we have researched
effective ways to motivate and teach children to read. It has been a
fascinating opportunity to share good practice across different European
countries and to work closely with children and teachers in other schools.

There will be some staff changes this summer. Sadly, after 23 years working
at our school, Mrs Pollard will be retiring in July. She has been an incredible
servant to us and has touched the lives of many children. We wish her a long
and extremely happy retirement. Miss Dales will also be leaving us to take up
a position of Deputy Headteacher in a school closer to her home. Miss Jaques
is leaving to undertake a teacher training qualification. We wish them every
success in the future.

Don’t forget that we continue to run PGCE level teacher training courses
through the School Direct scheme. We are still recruiting for September, so if
you know someone who is recently graduated and is interested in pursuing a
career in teaching please encourage them to speak to us.
